History speaks of the human condition becoming excruciatingly long as a 286-year-old hunter and his best hunting tool, his cyborg son, ventures into treacherous land on a planet in the forgotten corner of space. They find themselves in a fight to save the universe as Seven Ancestors threaten to destroy the Mars evolution of mankind.

The old man hunts on a desolate planet that orbits around a bloody red sun. Harsh desert conditions surround looming monsters that grace the heavens. The forgotten planet is only connected to the universe by a logistics juggernaut, collecting calcium from bones that tower over civilizations.

Follow this old man’s journey through murky, unsettling encounters where being a human is reason enough for death. A slip, a trip could be his last against ferocious beasts… his only protection… is his overwhelmingly strong cyborg son. A betrayal ultimately rifts the father and son relationship into a fight for control of the entire universe.

The pacing was well done. This tale was labelled Action/Adventure for a good reason. There was often something going on in the plot that made me wonder how in the world the main character and his son, Drum, were going to survive their most recent brush with death. They rarely knew a moment of safety, and that made it impossible for me to stop reading.

I had a lot of trouble keeping track of the large cast of characters. There were so many of them and they were introduced in such big groups that I spent a lot of time trying to remember who was who. There simply wasn’t enough space for this reader to get to know them all as individuals, and that was a disappointment.

Some of the most interesting passages were the ones that explained how Drum came to be. Cyborgs obviously don’t enter this world like human babies do, so I was curious to discover why and how he was created. The answers the plot provided were quite satisfactory to me.

There were multiple punctuation errors in this book. While I was able to figure out what most of them were intending to say fairly quickly, it was distracting to keep finding them over and over again. Another round of editing could have cleared them up pretty quickly, and it would have made it easier for me to justify choosing a higher rating.

It was mind-blowing to think of a point set so far in the future that many humans have to trace their lineage for quite a while before they find an ancestor who was born on Earth. This one clue about when this story was supposed to take place was all I needed to begin imagining how different the lives of these characters would be from anything current humans have known.

If you like adventurous science fiction, Old Man Odyssey might be right up your alley!

Thank you for reviewing my novel!! I appreciate the feedback. I am on a learning curve in my first novel and I have done more proofreading for the current update… in the review it mentioned errors in punctuation and stated a better score would be possible… I believe I fixed these, any chance you can take a quick look for a better score? This would help me understand to look into more editing options or not. Thank you for your time 🙂
