Children of Night, Book 3

Growing up, vampire-born twins Julie and Marc Fischer were taught one simple fact of life: you can choose your food, but not your family. Six months after moving to San Francisco, though, the new challenges and choices each are facing are a Gordian knot of complicated.

Marc must decide whether to stay with Conrad and Damian, the only family he’s ever known, or embrace his destiny and the unexpected family—the ferals—that comes along with it. Meanwhile, Julie is forced to deal with the unpleasant realization that the man she loves isn’t necessarily the man who’s best for her.

In some cases, men buy levitra online improve spontaneously without treatment within a year or two, and scar tissue may even disappear. Researchers have evaluated the cialis prescription prices antimicrobial properties of this plant. Kamagra can be found cialis properien also in the jelly form. Meanwhile, there is a fire at the mayor’s house and cheap cialis no one in the neighborhood is around to report it. For Conrad and Damian, the holiday season is stirring up bittersweet memories, and neither can keep from revisiting past passion and pain.

Faced with new mysteries to solve, new alliances to forge, new secrets to keep, and old relationships to rebuild, it’s no wonder the Fischer-Quintano vampires long for the good old days—when food was food and family was all that mattered.

Now Comes the Night is the latest in PG Forte’s darkly delicious world of the Quintano House of vampires, and those around them. All of my favorite characters are back in attendance, and Ms. Forte has kept the intriguing blend of past and present vignettes that has marked the previous books. I enjoy the glimpses into Conrad and Damian in an earlier time, and I really enjoyed seeing the peeks into Marc and Julie’s childhood, and what growing up vampire was like. There are a few new additions to the family, well, not exactly new, but recently arrived after some absence from Conrad and Damian’s circle, most notable among these is Georgia, who comes at Conrad’s insistence to perform a secret task for him. There are conspiracies and hidden agendas with many of these characters, and loyalties are strained and tested.

Love is the most amazing thing. It makes fools of the strongest of men, and no one knows this better than Conrad Quintano. For centuries, he has suffered, loving someone and believing that love was lost, but determined to keep his beloved close. Damian also thought he would never have Conrad’s love, and yet he stayed, just to be near the one he wanted over all others. As Conrad continues to recover from his ordeal, life moves on, and things are changing in a big way in San Francisco’s vampire world. Marc Fisher, still a bit angry after the betrayal and attack that caused him the loss of an eye, has moved out of Conrad’s house, and has befriended the ferals, a group of vampires that have no house, no protection, no family. Marc realizes that these aren’t bad people, and decides to help them become more accepted by vampire society, even while he continues his search for the one who maimed him. While Marc follows his plan, Julie is still with human guard Brennan, but she is beginning to realize that there may not be a ‘happily ever after’ for the two of them. As Conrad convinces Damian of his love, he still continues the search for the one who dared to harm what is important to him; his family, in this case Marc. Can Conrad focus his attention on Damian, while trying to keep up the appearance of strength and unity in his house? Will Marc find what he is looking for now that he is out of the Quintano house, and on his own? Can the Quintano House stand, and keep its secret, or will the past rear up to cause more damage?

Conrad Quintano remains the dominant and determined vampire leader he has always been, although still less than full strength after the abduction and attempt on his life in the recent past. He has finally learned that what he has believed for centuries is not, in fact, true. The one he thought lost to him, his love and lover, Damian, doesn’t hate him at all, and has been laboring under the mistaken idea that it was Conrad that hated him. I enjoyed watching as these two strong and determined men continue to tiptoe around their emotions, although they now know how foolish they have been. But there are still some tense moments ahead for them, and I enjoyed watching the give and take between these two, as they renew their relationship and become comfortable together again.

The twins, Marc and Julie, are learning to stand on their own as they mature. Marc is starting to be curious about where they came from, and why Conrad has kept them both sheltered for most of their lives so far. I like Marc, and can’t wait to see what he does with the feral vampires as he grows ever closer to them. Julie wants a fairytale happy ending, and knows she won’t have it with Brennan, no matter how she feels about him now.

PG Forte has written a compelling and captivating story, with an intriguing blend of present, recent past and some snippets of life when Conrad and Damian were first together. I love the little glimpses of what drives each character, and how where they have been has made them who they are. This series is addictive, like watching a favorite soap opera with real bloodsuckers, wondering what secrets will be revealed in the next episode. I can’t wait for Ms. Forte’s next book in this series, and I am definitely firmly in the ‘Team Conrad’ group. I recommend this one for those who know that vampires don’t sparkle, and aren’t always sweet and gentle lovers.
