Mr. Buff by April Angel is the something like a typical romantic story seen in movies. A self-assured woman who’s gone through a terrible breakup meets a rich man who’s ready to settle down. They like each other, flirt for a bit and have hot sex. The villain, a dumb model who can’t take no for an answer, and the heroine’s own self-doubts wedge in between them. Things happen and they get their happy ending with an unnecessary epilogue included.

However, three things make Mr. Buff different and enjoyable. One, Ms. Angel has a nice literary voice that had me sweeping through the pages even though I knew what was going to happen. Two, the hot descriptive sex. The author knows how to write steamy scenes and keep the reader hooked (though the Dom/sub relationship between the characters felt a bit forced). Three, the characters, even as clichéd as they were, are truly likeable. Alexandra is sweet, yet brazen, with issues like any other person. Andrew (Mr.Buff) is sex on legs and anyone’s dream man. He’s rich, powerful, dominant and sexy. He had me sighing through the whole thing. Finally, I feel that Alexandra’s fun and quirky friend, Nina, deserves a special mention, as the story wouldn’t have been the same without her.

Sometimes cliché is good and this is one of those instances. Mr. Buff is a quick, fun read for any time.
