This is a paranormal goody that was entertaining and easy to read. Lisa’s Bear has quite a bit of internal dialogue between the hero, David, and his inner bear. It was like listening to a bear channeling Tarzan with its one worded gruff vocabulary and I rather enjoyed the flavor it gave the story.

Lisa is a sweet girl but is troubled by an inferiority complex. Dating or hanging out with the wrong crowd will do that to a person. It was hard to read about her fledgling self-esteem being battered but I was gratified to see her eventually stand tall and take action. A little help from the paranormal aspect of the story was unexpected, unique and I liked that twist.

Of course Lisa and David do the sheet tango a time or two, and David came across as a dominant bear of a man but he’s a werebear after all; I expected no less. Those hot scenes were fun, sexy and entertaining, and a reader has no doubts about the hero and heroine having the hots for each other.

Another thing that came as no surprise is the plot conflict. Unfortunately, the villain was easily figured out and the heroine immediately acted the way more easily led astray heroines often do, which annoyed me. It was ‘fainting couch drama’ and predictable but the good news is that it didn’t stop me from reading or enjoying the book. There were quite a few misspellings too which surprised me because everything else seemed so well put together. Overall, the novelette had too much good stuff going on for me to stop. That was proved right when Lisa was able to confront her tormenter. That was a delicious bit of writing and very satisfying. I’m glad I read the whole book.

The HEA is cute because Lisa talks to her bear and I laughed. I have no doubt that Lisa and David are going to have a wonderful life together. Lisa’s Bear is short, cute and a nice way to laze away an afternoon.
