Beau Lafitte is happily retired from bullriding, and glad his lover Sam is recovering from a terrible injury. The problem is that with Sam taking up a new hobby, Beau is lonely. Can he get Sam to understand that what he needs are words, not leather chaps?

Beau and his bloodhound, Boudreaux, are feeling a little lonely. Sam, his partner, has been hidden away, leather making, and while Beau understands and loves Sam’s work, it doesn’t stem his feelings of being somewhat neglected. Determined to get his attention and keep it a while, he decides they can go off into the mountains for a few days and reconnect.

I really enjoyed both Sam and Beau – they were great characters. Both hard-bitten, slightly stubborn grown men, I found it refreshing to see how two cowboys so deeply in love could find middle ground between them. Neither man is perfect or carefree – and the reality of that made this a different and really intriguing read. Their mutual love for each other is clear to see both in their actions and interactions – but neither is submissive to the other. They muddle along, both compromising and understanding listening to and respecting each other is so integral to making their love work. This isn’t your average story and while still a smoking hot read, I found myself far more drawn to the day-to-day aspects of Sam and Beau, in how they care for each other while maintaining their very manly, salt-of-the-earth characteristics.

A heart-warming, wonderful read, I really enjoyed this short story.
