Lawyer Juliet Jackson has come head to head with Sergeant Jesse Burns on numerous occasions in court. He is provoking. Pigheaded. Punch-worthy. They don’t get along. Not one little bit. The unfortunate fact he’s also her next-door neighbor brings her loathing off the charts. But when Juliet’s caught locked outside her home in nothing but a skimpy towel, she must swallow her pride and turn to Jesse for help. She doesn’t expect the explosive chemistry between them and can’t help but wonder if Jesse’s as demanding in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom.

Juliet had faced down her next-door neighbor Sergeant Jesse Burns more than a few times in the court-room as she cross-examined him and defended her clients. Sure, the man was dead sexy and made her hot, but he was also arrogant and didn’t always take the time to get to know the full story. As a lawyer defending these people, Juliet did. When she accidently locks herself out of the house clad only in a towel though, Juliet is grateful for Jesse’s close proximity and they each start to see the other in a different light.

I found this to be a funny and sexy short story. The pace is quite quick, which given the short page count I thought was completely understandable. Readers who prefer a slower-burn to their romance mightn’t find what they’re looking for here. And while I thought the enemies-to-lovers shift was slightly too fast for my personal tastes, the chemistry and attraction between Juliet and Jesse was smoking hot and I quickly got on board with them being sexily intimate together and indulging in all that passion burning between them.

With a lot of sharp banter between them, I thought both Jesse and Juliet were strong characters, neither willing to give an inch on the other. This isn’t a soft or gentle romance, but more like two fierce fires coming together and burning the house down. There is a very satisfying “Happy For Now” style of ending that I enjoyed and with a few of their neighbors introduced I’d be intrigued to see if any further stories might be released in the future.

Sexy, hot and very fast-paced, this was a fun and good read.
