Dumped and abandoned on a trip to Alaska by her now ex-boyfriend, Jaren has nowhere to go and no money, until a sexy knight in shining armor appears and, like any good hero, rescues her. And she repays him by getting drunk and riding him like her favorite amusement park ride. Well done.

Kajakti was more than pleased to find his mate, but when his erotic dream turns out to be reality, he has no idea how to break it to Jaren that she cemented the mating bond by seducing him in his sleep. And the topper is, she doesn’t even know he’s a werewolf. A fine mess indeed.

As Kajakti prepares to reveal all to the woman he loves, the dark wolves make a new move that could shift the balance in the war against them and put the sentinels at risk. Kajakti gets the first taste of it, which threatens not only him, but his unturned mate.

Kajakti has watched as three of his wolf brothers found their mates. While he is happy for his brothers, he’s feeling a little envious of them too. Deciding that it’s past time he got laid, he heads to town in search of a willing woman. Might not be Miss Right…but maybe she can be Miss Right Now. Turns out it’s Kajakti’s lucky day to meet the right one… his one true mate.

She takes the guy up on his offer and goes back to his place (den) where she meets his family. They hit it off, and Jaren is seriously considering taking Kajakti up on his offer to stick around for a while. Kajakti neglects to tell her that it’s already impossible for her to leave him. I won’t say why, but readers can pretty much guess. Then things get interesting, as the Dark Wolves up their game and suddenly all the Sentinels are in danger from within.

As with all Marisa Chenery’s books, the characters here are strong and engaging. I liked that she went in a new direction with this story. It was quite a bit darker than the rest of the series, and I enjoyed the change. More time has passed since Cassidy discovered the Wolf brothers, and they have become more acclimated to the modern world. Gone are the charming misunderstandings of our modern language. I kind of missed the humor of them, but at least the writer doesn’t keep beating a dead horse. She keeps changing her story, and I’m glad for it. Nothing worse than a story that keeps repeating over and over, and that will turn me off from a writer faster than anything. Another thing I enjoy about Marisa’s work. Each book is different and special in its own way.

That being said, I would have enjoyed the story more if Jaren had wavered a tiny bit on accepting Kajakti though. More angst is what I was looking for. She accepted him way too fast. She forgave him even faster, and I found that lessened the stories credibility. Same goes with how quickly the problem with the Dark Wolves was resolved. Without giving away the plot, I felt that would have been better if the writer had explored that, and drawn it out more. Just saying, it would have made the story better for me, but I still enjoyed it more than any of the other books.

I love all of Marisa Chenery’s books, and felt that this one was one of the best. It explored the truth that we all have a dark side. It took a series that I’ve loved from the start, and made it better by going in a new direction. I enjoyed seeing one of the Sentinels dark side come out. The writer played on his resentment and fear that his mate might not accept him. Now, I know that the whole thing was triggered, but there had to be something hidden in his sub-conscience to begin with. Not sure where Marisa Chenery’s mind was on that, or if that was my interpretation only. Whatever it was, it worked for me, and I’m hoping she will continue to shake things up with the series.

Sadly, there are only two more Wolf brothers left to find their long awaited mates. Yet, I have hope that Marisa Chenery will give Carson a story and a mate. Then there is another new character that we meet at the end of this story. I feel that Ryder could possibly be the most intriguing character, and would love to read his story.

No doubt about it, Ice Age Lover is some of Marisa Chenery’s finest work. It’s exciting and entertaining. It’s passionate and fun. And obviously, I loved it. I’d recommend it to paranormal fans who like a good shifter story they can really sink their teeth into.
