Do you believe in dragons? Werewolf cop Rick Lupone would say no . . . until a dying faerie tells him the fate of his city depends on him. If he can’t protect a mysterious woman in peril, everything may be lost. The only discovery more shocking is that the woman he’s meant to save is his high school crush, Cass Maycee.

If ever a book started off to deceive then this one pulled it off. Based on the beginning, I was completely bamboozled into thinking I knew who the bad guy was and what the gist of the plot conflict was. I couldn’t have been more wrong and I have never had as much fun in finding out the truth as I did when reading Hidden Dragons. It was a clever hook and Ms. Holly delivered an amazing journey as I discovered the wonderful secrets the main characters slowly unveiled in the course of falling in love.

Cass is the heroine and she’s a special lady. Her life has been lived in two worlds and when the book opens, she’s readjusting to life back in the Pocket, where humans, Fae and other creatures co-exist. I liked how Ms. Holly introduced the heroine doing normal things with her good friends. I liked the dialogue that happens between them and the sense of love and fun came through clearly. Some of that normalness plays a key role later in the book. Watch for it. In the meantime, a reader gets to learn just how unique and unusual the heroine turns out to be. Cass is in for the shock of her life.

The author takes Cass on a dream trip to her childhood. What gets revealed propels the plot onto a fast track of excitement and Rick, the hero, plays a key role in helping her get through it. I liked Rick a lot. He’s sexy, he’s a cop and he’s a sweet yet commanding werewolf. I liked watching him with Cass. The author took her time in developing their romance because it had to be balanced with all the twists and turns of the plot conflict. I felt the protagonists were well developed, likeable and a joy to get to know.

When the hero and heroine do finally have a chance to explore the physical side of their love, Ms. Holly once again proves why fans devour her books. It’s sexy, it’s titillating and it’s all about the emotion behind the action. I could sense the connections being forged, the attachment to each other growing and the fun they were having as they learned what each of them liked in the bedroom. Deliciously steamy writing.

Cass’s dad was a shocker. I can’t reveal more than that. All I can say about him is that he’s not a typical father. I didn’t see it coming and I enjoyed how it rocked everyone’s world.

The little critters were adorable! I totally enjoyed how the author presented them, and had them grow and learn and act. I want one.

For readers who enjoy a book that challenges the hero and heroine to be the best they can be while dealing with the worst scenarios a villain can throw at them, this book delivers. If a reader is looking for a tale that is intricate, involved and has solid writing to back up the plot, they’ll find that with Hidden Dragons. If a reader likes a book with camaraderie, personality and effective dialogue to back it up, then they’ll find it here. I found all of this and more. Seriously, reading Hidden Dragons is a satisfying adventure that simply has to be read more than once. Later on, while trying to condense all that I felt after reading this book and having to re-read parts to find the point I wanted to make, I found myself sucked back into the world, the adventure and the romance. It was hard to put down the first time and each chapter reminded me why. I cared about the characters. I was fascinated, and enchanted. This book is a must read.

And guess what? Rick’s brother should be next and after some hints dropped here and there about how Rick is worried about his brother’s happiness, the next book is going to be an auto-buy for me. How can it not? If it’s as good a tale as this one, I’m going to be in for a treat!

  1. I like books that keep you guessing. I hate when I figure out who the bad guy is in the beginning of books. Thanks for the review. I haven’t read this author. Might be a good book to start.
