Quent Jackson has followed Jason Spade’s every move in business and in poker since their first day as college freshmen. Eight years later, when Jace finally decides Quent is the one man he can’t live without, he sees no reason for that to change.

But as much as Jace believes that poker is life, no one gave Quent the same playbook. After their first passionate night, the real game of love and trust begins, and Jace has been playing alone too long to make teaching the rules easy. Jace only speaks two languages: one of them is sex, and the other one is poker. Between the two, he needs to find a way to convince himself to take a chance on love—and Quent to take a chance on him. It’s a lucky thing they’re good at reading the odds, because they’re playing for keeps, and this is one high-stakes relationship that’s definitely worth the gamble.

Poker is life but who will win the game? Jace learned how to play poker from a young age. He also learned that the game answers all of life’s questions and offers all the tools to control your life. What he never counted on was his best friend upping the ante. The two friends are happy to get sexual with each other but now must figure out how to get their happy ever after ending. If they’re lucky, they both will win.

Gambling Men is a slick, entertaining title from Amy Lane. Fans of the author should recognize the writing easily and hopefully like these two gruff, but loveable men. Jace stars as the alpha male who controls and orders his life and work so easily (including the life and work of his best friend Quinton). Yet Jace’s fear of losing anyone he loves has his alternatively terrified and needy. His back and forth antics are endearing as he emotionally clings to Quinton yet still growls like a wounded bear at him. Quinton, thankfully, is easy going and understanding so it’s more a matter of time until Jace feels comfortable than any big problem.

Littered throughout the story are numerous poker metaphors. These run kind of long and I got tired of them early on but I can see the parallel the story is trying to make. What helps make up for this small issue is the many really hot sex scenes. These two men are dynamite together from the first scene and the tension helps carry off each scene.

Overall this is another successful story by Lane that fans are likely to appreciate. The men are well crafted and the writing is top notch. The concise prose combined with plentiful erotica left me pretty satisified.
