Full Moon is book #2 in the Second Chances series from the talented Mari Carr.

Carr is one of the few authors who never lets me down. I’m a big fan of all her books, and this one is no exception. A woman on the prowl…a sexy stud bartender…this story had the potential to go the gratuitous route. But it didn’t. Never one to disappoint, Carr delivered a beautiful love story that is filled with sensual love scenes, but without the gratuitousness that can be found in erotic novels. Don’t get me wrong….there is a lot of steam in this one. Full Moon is more than an ordinary erotic novel. The story flowed so smoothly, that I barely even noticed the heat level (it’s red hot by the way). Simply put…Carr delivered a meaningful story with this one, and that is what it takes to grab onto and hold my attention.

The story opens with Josie and her girl posse making their resolutions for the new year. Resolutions are the common thread that is the premise of the Second Chances series. It’s been two years since Josie’s gotten laid. Since her ex walked out on their marriage for some bimbo he met in a bar. Her first priority has been in providing a stable life for herself and her six year old son, Tommy. But you know…BOB won’t do it forever…and a girl’s gotta get her some eventually. So Josie’s resolution is her own personal bucket list – or her howl list – as she calls it. # 1 on the list is sex with a stranger, and the list gets hotter with each subsequent full moon. Josie girl hits pay dirt her first time out on the prowl, when she captures the attentions of Jake, the hunky barkeep who wants to fulfill all her full moon fantasies.

I was totally enthralled with Josie and Jake as a couple. They were perfect together. They just had to work through some issues, mostly Josie’s insecurities and her clinging ex. She had some trust issues, and an impressionable young son to consider, so I bought that it was hard for her to keep coming back to Jake for what she needed. She wanted to keep up her walls. I mostly liked that she put her sons security and peace of mind above her own desires.

I absolutely adored Jake. He was steady and dependable, and sinfully sexy. I liked that he wasn’t the usual alpha jerk that I sometimes love to hate. Jake was quite ingenious in his approach to winning the game. It was his persistence and his laid back persona that convinced me that he was the man to break down Josies defensive wall. He could give her everything she needed…hot sex…a strong shoulder…a lasting love.

Full Moon has a credible plot with believable characters that I could believe in. I wanted to get to know Josie and Jake, and thanks to the superb writing, I did. Yeah, Carr sold this story. She sold it with great writing and character development. The secondary characters were interesting as well, the sistah hood, Tommy and even the manipulative ex added depth to the story.

Full Moon is a sexy and fun read, and I enthusiastically recommend it as Mari Carr at her best.
