In concept, this is an interesting book. I won’t go into too many details so as not to spoil the surprises, but there are many. It’s a short book and a quick read, so if you’re looking for a fun, beachy read, then this would work.

The writing is interesting, but I must caution, there is an awful lot of telling rather than showing. I never got the feeling I was in the characters’ world, but more like I was watching a TV show. I’m not entirely sure what either character looked like.

Another thing about this book was the plot line. I can’t tell the secrets, so you can read them yourself, but I had a very hard time buying into them. He’s a marine. His situation wasn’t totally unbelievable, but I really had to suspend my disbelief. Then there was Cassie, the heroine. She seemed to talk down to him and act more like a mother hen than a love interest. I liked when they got together, but I wanted to see more out of her character. I kind of understood why she acted the way she did, but I thought she could use more rounding.

All in all, it’s a hot read and quick, too. If you’re in the mood for a short story with a hot marine, then this might be the book for you.
