Crater Lake Park attracts many tourists and Chief Park Ranger Henry Shore is happy to see people enjoy the scenery and peacefulness of his domain. He and his wife live in the park and their divorced daughter and her baby live nearby.

Trouble arrives when an earthquake uncovers dinosaur bones near the upper part of the lake. Henry knows this discovery will mean more visitors, but would they be the right sort? He’s just got used to the dinosaur bones discovery when rumors begin to fly about a huge creature haunting the lake – then people begin to disappear! Henry knows something must be done to keep the park visitors safe, but bureaucracy fights him at every turn.

I found this book to be an enjoyable read. There were a few thrills and chills when the belief about the monster in the lake became more solid. Henry and his wife have a loving relationship but Ann has a mind of her own. They reminded me of many husband and wife teams who work together to a common good. There were many characters in this book, but somehow the author managed to keep me from getting too confused. Only a couple of times did I have to flick back to see the part played by the person she mentioned.

Towards the end of the story as the pace was cranked up to the finale, I found some scenes slightly unbelievable, but on the whole this really could have happened. Our planet has many hidden facets and who knows what lies beneath the surface?

Dinosaur Lake is a planned story and equally well written.
