Lanie Delacor insists a man followed her from a roadside rest and tried to kill her. Unconvinced, PA State Trooper TJ McGraw has his hands full dealing with the sassy, green-eyed lady, but when two dead bodies turn up at that very same rest stop, TJ suspects Lanie unknowingly witnessed a double murder. As the case unfolds, sizzle between the determined trooper and the strong-willed lady escalates. He discovers she means more to him than a job assignment, yet Lanie is convinced she has nothing to offer TJ once the heat burns off — until a surprise message from the grave softens her heart and dictates whether they have a future together.

Being at the wrong place at the wrong time, Lanie Delacor ends up with a killer following her. Will handsome PA State Trooper TJ McGraw be able to resist the attraction for her and protect her from the killer?

The novel slowly drew me in during the rest stop encounter and the actual event that set the chance meeting of Lanie Delacor and PA State Trooper TJ McGraw. The first few chapters of Deadly Encounter starts off with a hint of suspense. Enough suspense to keep you reading to find out what will happen to Lanie and will the police believe her story that someone tried to killed her.

In my opinion, the parts that build your suspense were too brief to really draw a reader in. Personally, I wish some of the instances could have been a little more detailed for a more dramatic effect, balancing out the suspense and romance.

I did enjoy the characters, even the family dog and cat. The characters had personalities that were well developed and likeable. I felt the closeness of the friendship among the characters and also the family bond that Lanie had with her late Uncle Charley and the bond between TJ and his mother. These relationships were very realistic.

The romance part was well developed and gave enjoyment of the resistance to the attraction both Lanie and TJ felt. The attraction and chemistry is there between the two main characters but the ending was sort of predictable.

There were a few editing errors, however it did not take away from the story.
