Vegas is filled with human cast-offs, yet officer Parker McLean sees something special in hustler Slade Wolfgang. Unfortunately, so does Slade’s pimp who wants to sell him overseas in the sex trade.

Hustler Slade Wolfgang has little choice over his fate. At the age of twenty, he’s had to survive any way he can since being thrown out of his home for being gay. As soon as he hit Vegas, Slade was lured into the hopeless world of prostitution where he’s become a virtual prisoner to his pimp, the ruthless Julio Estevez. His evil keeper has even threatened to sell Slade overseas as a sex slave.

It’s another typical night on the Strip when Parker comes across Slade. His heart breaks every time he sees someone so young being exploited. Something in Slade’s eyes tells Parker the young man might be in real trouble though—especially after the recent spate of sex worker killings from a rival prostitution ring.

The two men’s lives become intertwined when Slade is almost beaten to death. The danger grows, but so does the relationship between Parker and Slade. Parker helps Slade to heal from the horrific attack and their bond deepens. But the human traffickers are still out there – and they’re still looking for Slade.

Boys like Slade are a dime a dozen, hustling the streets to make enough money to keep a roof over their heads. When a chance encounter draws Slade into the line of sight of Officer Parker McLean, his world is forever changed. But can a one-time male prostitute really make a life with an officer of the law? There’s only one way to find out… by trying it.

Slade Wolfgang is sadly leading a life that is all too realistic. Having been kicked out of his home for being gay, he does the only thing he can to make a living and that’s sell himself. Wrapped up with a sadistic pimp, he’s lost all hope that anything can ever get better. All of this leaves Slade withdrawn and unable to trust in anyone, even sweet and sexy Parker. You really root for this poor, conflicted soul to find happiness somewhere.

Parker McLean has worked the Strip for a while now, and yet he still finds himself shocked at the things that can happen. I really loved Parker. His dedication not just to his job, but to getting justice for those who deserve it, is impressive. So when he takes a chance on Slade by taking him in and beginning a relationship with him, you aren’t surprised. You know he’s going to give everything to the kid and that if it doesn’t work out, it won’t be for a lack of trying.

As a follow-up to All Fired Up, Copping an Attitude is a darker and more intense story. Delving into the world of prostitution and the abuse and exploitation that goes along with it, this isn’t as light of a novel as its predecessor. However, I didn’t find the romance between Parker and Slade to be as believable as the one between Trent and Shawn in the first book. That said, Parker really does exhibit a ton of love and patience when it comes to winning Slade over and that makes up for a lot of things. Copping an Attitude is an excellent sequel and shows that Ms. Knight can really spin an intense story. I’m anxious to see where book three takes us.
