Penelope finds herself adopting a kitten – Fang – from a local woman. Despite repeating to herself that she doesn’t need a kitten, once he’s in her hands and she’s petting him she’s lost. A year later, on Halloween, Penn finds that her little cat is actually a shifter called Ascher. A very handsome man, Penn soon finds out that she’s helpless where her cat shifter is concerned, and the two are being tracked by very dangerous hunters.

Toss reason and logic to the wind, sit back and enjoy this funny, charming short story. Readers who need everything to be straight forward and make sense might struggle with this story, there are some phenomenal plot holes, like how can a 1 yr old cat be a fully grown man after shifting? Or how can that same shifter know about the history of other shifters when he’s been living with a single female all his life? But I found looking beyond these things let me really enjoy the tale. I felt the author wrote this with her tongue firmly in cheek and I can totally appreciate that in a story.

I thought the dialogue was snappy, sexy and quite funny. The plot is simple but still rather fresh and not done a million times in other books, and the characters are interesting. There are also hunters trying to get Ascher and his brothers for their expensive blood and the reunion of Ascher with some of his long-lost litter brothers adds conflict and tension into the mix. Some scorching hot sex scenes rounds this short story out well. I thought this would be the perfect quick-read when I wanted something light and fun, something to while away my time in a waiting room or perhaps to unwind after a stressful day. Recommended.
