Jessi McIvey became an archeologist, and traveled the world only to realize the greatest find of her life was waiting for her in her hometown, cowboys excepted. Whoever said cowboys were hot, hadn’t been raised around them. They were bossy, opininated and the last kind of man she wanted.

Connor Baer left the ranch for in search of a very different life. Small town ranching wasn’t for him. Cowgirls were not his type, although he wasn’t really sure what his type was. Recent events at the family ranch called him home. He thought he’d just help out and leave again. Then she ran into his life.

Connor Baer has a split-second to choose his nemesis…A half-human, muddy glob, or a grizzly with teeth the size of his arm.

I laughed until my sides hurt when reading the first few pages of this book. Here is a small snippet from page 6.

~ “I’m your worst nightmare, Connor Baer.” With that, the glob stomped across the field where they’d landed…

Mike gave a whistle watching the feminine glob cross the road. “What did you do to inspire that comment, young man?”

“I rescued it.” He slung a handful of mud to the ground. ~

I found these two main characters, Jessi and Connor, to be both exciting and fun.

According to her mother, Jessi has a mean streak, and Connor has the natural ability to jump-start her temper on contact. Bears, mudslides, and a war over drilling rights keep Connor Baer on his toes, not to mention, the sexy little spitfire that seems to be at the center of all of them.

Snappy, energy-filled dialogue keeps this story reeling with action and situational descriptions that shove the reader smack into the middle of each scene. Author Linda McMaken must have an enormous sense of humor along with an appreciation for human nature because she infuses her characters with both. Even her secondary characters are unique, realistic, and totally fit the story.

I suggest you wait to read this book when you’re sure to be alone, because I promise, you’re not going to want any interruptions.
