For this story to have the most impact, a reader would have read a couple of the previous books in the series that dealt with the demise of the previous men known as Fox. Only by having a bit of background will the total impact of the author’s deviousness be completely revealed and understood. It’s a jaw dropper.

At first I was thrilled for the hero. Ms. Palmer effectively set up the tone of the story right from the start, but even that doesn’t come close to the mayhem and drama that comes later. Poor Fox. Not only does his dream vocation turn dark and murky but he gets the shock of his life when Melisande, the reluctant heroine, mists in. It’s instant emotional conflict and the chase is on. Thing is, Melisande doesn’t want to be chased. In fact she wants nothing whatsoever to do with him. So what’s a guy to do?
What Fox has to go through to win the trust and love of the very resistant heroine is nothing short of heroism. The process includes tons of action with tight and vivid writing that made me short of breath from heightened adrenaline. Surprises and shocks, twists and turns, lows so dark they were a torment to read and highs so lofty they made me dizzy, all pepper the novel making it a true page flipper.
Melisande is a tortured heroine both figuratively and literally. At points it was hard to read about her journey. It culminated in a stunning reveal that blew me away. Ms. Palmer managed to put my feelings through the wringer as the heroine reeled from the ramifications of the truths of what really happened to her. I never saw it coming and it was a great and effective emotional conflict. I liked her courage, her feistiness, her passion once she let go, and I was impressed with her gut-wrenching choice to apologize. That scene was beautifully written and powerful. In previous books, she wasn’t a very nice person. In A Love Untamed a reader finds out why and I guarantee she is a heroine worth caring about. I ended up liking her a lot.
There are old favorites helping Fox save the day but there are new characters that complicate the plot and conflict. The saddest is what happens to Fox’s friend. I hope somehow he can be saved.
Ms. Palmer also threw in a very interesting hook for another feral warrior’s story that may or may not have closure anytime soon. He may, but only the author knows. What I found so interesting was how the author left it – can he be saved? Did the person he sought really do what I thought, and did it end the way it did as written or is there a new curve in the fight against evil that is just tantalizingly out of reach? Even after reading the book I’m still asking myself these questions. Can you say “auto-buy”??
It’s not all frantic searching and fighting action. There are moments of humor, of clever writing that truly entertains and of course, searing, page steaming passion between Fox and Melisande that made this reader sigh in pleasure. Fox really does know his way around a woman’s body. ::swoon::
A Love Untamed is a sure pleaser for fans of this fantastic and exciting series. The characters have their issues and inner emotional conflicts. Their trials provide the impetus for meeting challenges head on, making this novel intense, entertaining and amazing as they rise above the chaos and deliver justice, swift and true. The best part is the culmination of everything they survived to enjoy their happy ever after. Fox and Melisande’s love was tested in fire in this story and I have every confidence that it will be enduring and strong mostly due to this romance being so well written. It’s a keeper.
