Caught in a sudden thunderstorm on a lonely stretch of Texas highway, I pull into a dingy little diner to wait out the rain, never dreaming the cowboy of my dreams would follow me inside. Now I have a couple of choices, play it coy and safe? Or go for the big brass buckle?

“Cowboy” is a short story that seduces the reader the same time Carly seduces her cowboy. The descriptive visuals will surely have a reader reaching for something cold and wet.

In the story, I never got to know Carly’s full name. She wants to stay anonymous because she doesn’t think things are going to be any different from the rules she’s set down. But, there’s something about the man who walks into the deserted diner that speaks to her. The way Ms. Devlin described Cowboy was enough to send me into a hot flash. It’s not a wonder that Carly ends up contemplating a most sensually spontaneous plan.

Cowboy is a mystery. One thing I can say is; the man has dialogue that packs a sexual punch that would make any woman weak in the knees and give her butterflies in her tummy. He’s a gentleman but is not afraid to take what is offered or demand a give and take. And wow, does he give some hot lovin’.

The amusing twist comes from a certain realization at a certain time which had me grinning from ear to ear. What a clever and hilarious bit of writing. Ms. Devlin has a cheeky wit which enhanced this story tremendously.

My only disappointment is the ending. It has promise for a very passionate HEA, but there is no true commitment to the promise and I was bummed. Carly and her cowboy have some serious sparks left smoldering and I want to know what happens next. Ms. Devlin simply has to pick up the thread and weave some more hot magic between this couple and I’ll be right there in line to get the book.

I liked Carly and I want to get to know her cowboy and since it’s in first person POV, I can’t get to know him until Carly does. Therefore, I fervently hope that Ms. Devlin plans on giving us more. If not, I just may have to start an email campaign.
