Cassidy unintentionally set the fire that destroyed her family. Now, in an attempt to escape the constant reminders, she prepares to leave the tiny farming community she grew up in. The story The Water Bearer started with intrigue that made me want to carry on reading and did not disappoint when I did. The name of the book was intriguing to begin with and as the story progresses the significance of the name becomes evident.

The relationship between the two main characters - Cassidy and Jared – is very real and believable. It takes you through a rollercoaster of motions at the same time the characters experience them for themselves. Both are strong characters in their own right. Cassidy being strong willed and knowing exactly what she wants and when she is going to get it (or does she) and Jared being the one who keeps Cassidy on her toes and doubting herself. The dialogue between the two is witty, fun loving and fraught with hidden meaning – be it jealousy, malice, cheek or something extra. All the characters have their own backgrounds and by the end of the book you will know them like they are your own family.

The story is set in a little town where everyone knows everyone else’s business and the story draws you into the warmth of being in that type of community. The descriptions Ms. Christner gives throughout the book lets your imagination run wild picturing the scenes in which the characters are set in.

The whole story is well thought out and makes you want to know what happens next, a great read to wind down with after a long day.
