Two hearts joined by love and desire are separated by a cruel fate. In another time and place, dragon keeper Michael saved the House of Obert, but died in Belle’s arms as she pledged her love forever.

Can it now be that very love spanning time and dimension that brings together a quiet librarian and a handsome stranger who whispers her name and ignites her passion?

A whole lot of action is packed into this short story, which jumps back and forth between two vastly different time periods to tell the story of timeless love.  Belle and Michael, separated in a long-gone time, waste no time reconnecting at a present day costume party.  There’s not much time spent setting the stage in this short story, but the reader soon discovers that when you’re found your soul mate, nothing can keep you apart.

The love and the sex is hot in this story, and one can definitely see how centuries will do nothing to keep these lovers from each other.  I would have liked to see a more solid setting in both time periods; I’m hard-pressed to describe the exact time or place of the present day party or the flashback to the medieval society (I think it‘s medieval; that‘s actually a guess).  I also felt the reunion between the main characters was a little rushed.  Belle is a reserved librarian in present day, but it’s literally a matter of minutes before she abandons all sense of shyness and disappears with the dashing stranger dressed as Dracula.  Despite the brief story length, I would have liked to see more character development.

However, if you’re looking for a quick read about lovers reunited after centuries apart, “Dragon’s Fire” is a good choice.  The ending is satisfying and will leave you believing in the power of timeless love.
