Journalist Sophie Alton is investigating the disappearance of a young mother named Megan, recently paroled and now running from the law with her baby daughter. Sophie’s search leads her to Megan’s brother, Marc, a convicted killer – and the man she shared an unforgettable night with twelve years ago.

Condemned to life in prison, Marc uses Sophie to escape so he can find his sister and protect her from the monster who’s pursuing her. Sophie knows she should fear Marc. But the heat and hunger of his touch still lingers in her mind – and on her body – after all this time.

Together they will follow a dangerous trail, as people on both sides of the law do everything they can to keep Sophie and Marc from finding Megan – and a shocking truth about the past…

If you’re looking for adventure and love, not to mention heart-pounding suspense, then this is the book for you. Pamela Clare’s talent for weaving a tale will not leave you wanting… unless it’s wanting to go back and read Unlawful Contact again.

Marc “Hunt” Hunter is a desperate man and, convinced he has nothing left to lose, he takes matters into his own hands. Sophie is the perfect person to put his plan into action, and when he takes her by surprise he sets more things in motion than he intended. But a desperate man has to use desperate tactics, and forget the consequences, even if Sophie is one of them.

Hunt is one of my favorite kinds of heroes. He’s sometimes dark, he’s tortured, he’s determined and to top it all off… he’s darned sexy to boot. Hunt has hidden depths that you suspect are there, but aren’t sure just how very deep they really are until you step down into the void. Hunt is actually a pretty amazing man, and you don’t really find out how truly amazing until closer to the end of the book. Once you do find out how amazing he is, you’ll lose your heart to him just as I did!

Sophie Alton is bound and determined to do the right thing and, whether she knows it or not, that puts her right in the path of a criminal, Marc Hunter. While she doesn’t quite trust him, she knows he may have the only information she needs to make things right. As she and Marc try to unravel a mystery, they discover so much more than they expected.

Sophie is a remarkable woman, and one that most of us wish that we could be like. She shows incredible courage in the face of extremely terrifying situations, and even manages to come out on top on more than one occasion. I can't say that many of us, if faced with the same situations, would be able pull it off with the same aplomb as Sophie managed. Her loyalty and tenacity are traits that I really admired and even envied. When she finds she is still drawn to this man that has seemingly put her life in so much danger, I was impressed with her honesty and insight. Her memories of Hunt as a much younger man help to further her attraction to him, and it was quite a ride as that attraction grew to unimaginable proportions.

Pamela Clare has a winner with this gripping, emotional tale of love lost and second chances. I greatly enjoyed going along for the journey as Hunt and Sophie try to find the truth behind his sister’s disappearance. The depth of emotion from all characters involved, even the secondary characters, is so stunning that several times I felt my own stomach clench at the emotions evoked from ME by Pamela Clare.

A word of warning, this is not a tale for the faint of heart, some of the subject matter is disheartening, and even scary. The deeper look into the penitentiary system in Colorado is certainly a reality check. I know that part of Pamela’s research involved going into the system as a prisoner herself, and her experiences are clearly evidenced in this book. Also, some may not be comfortable with the very hot love scenes between Hunt and Sophie. But, while some of the intimate scenes between Hunt and Sophie were very raw and earthy, I felt that there was a deeper connection and love that was explored as well, and for me it was simply extra spice for the palate.

I have to say that the journey was full of ups and downs and mysteries and secrets, and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more! Even when I was sure there was no possibility of a true happy ending, I found myself rooting for Hunt and Sophie and their seemingly doomed love. I really wanted them to have the Happy Ever After they both so richly deserved and was moved by how Pamela Clare brought their HEA to fruition. I have to say that I also appreciated the reality check Pamela gave us as to the workings of the justice system. All in all, Unlawful Contact was a fantastic book that is going on my keeper shelf. Pamela’s evocative writing style, which had my heart pounding and kept the pages turning from the first page to the very last, is reason enough for me to put her on my auto-buy list! A solid five books.
