In Flames by Melody Knight |
|
Lady Sophia Donovan has everything a woman could wish
for—a new-found family, the hard-earned respect of her peers in the
corporate world, loyal friends, and an exciting lover. Marco Willis is a spy. Tall, dark, handsome, and oh-so-virile, he’s long been accustomed to bedding women and securing information while between the sheets. But Sophie is unlike any woman he’s ever known. With her open, warm, and loving nature she not only gains Marco’s trust, she captures his heart. But is there more to Lady Donovan than meets the eye? When a series of terrifying events threatens Sophie’s life, things really begin to heat up. Marco, the man she’s grown to love, is determined to protect her at all costs. How can he hope to win, though, when his opponent is a dead man, and his only weapons are Sophie’s secret past and a bunch of buried memories? In Flames—a scorching hot read that you won’t be able to put down. ♥ ♥ ♥ Melody Knight knows her craft. From the prologue to the last page she had me hooked. The story weaves through a web of strange and illusive problems with a dab of humor on the side. You know from the first page that this book is not your run of the mill romance. Sophie has a ghost or her deceased husband is stalking her, and someone is trying to set her on fire. Marco, her lover, is determined to get to the bottom of the problem before she goes up in flames. Of course he botches it, so she doesn’t believe he loves her. Although Sophie’s character is definitely shy a few marbles, I couldn’t help but love her. When she tells her friend Peri they are going to an auction, it is not for antiques. Melody painted a vivid picture of two women bidding on animals designated for slaughter. The sex is sensual and steamy without being graphic. Just enough detail to make me want more and squirm in my chair. The heroes are believable because they aren’t perfect, but neither are the women. Sophie’s sordid past is not exactly what you think. Peri is able to solve the mystery with her special talents but puts everyone in danger. Although Jake, her husband, tries to keep her from snooping, but she’s a little too quick for him. I would suggest that the author explain a little more about the henges, Oghman script, ancient religions, etc. I got a little confused and looked up some terms on the internet. This might put some people off, but I actually enjoyed it. I like books that teach me something new, and I didn’t mind the research. Although the story flows well, I felt like I missed a previous adventure of Sophie, Peri, Marco, and Jake. Instead of distracting from the story it made me want to know if this is a sequel where’s the first book? This was different from what I normally read, but I definitely enjoyed it. I’m giving it 5 books. |
