Damien LaRue has spent the better part of two hundred years trying to atone for an act he’d been driven to commit shortly after master vampiress, Isabelle Sartre ended his life in 1815. Because he can never forgive himself, he plans to ‘meet the dawn’ soon, never intending to claim his mate. However, he hadn’t counted on Abrielle Chirac’s tenacity and her utter faith in him. When a strange mark suddenly appears on her breast, Abby discovers that she is destined to become her guardian’s mate. She’s determined to use her body to break through Damien’s wall of resistance. She wants the man as much as her body craves the vampire! Unfortunately, Damien’s will is stronger than her attempts at seduction, and it isn’t until she’s attacked by rogues and Damien brings her to his home for protection that she gets the chance to finally become his in every way.

These bonded mates will have to fight their past before they can embrace their futures.

Finding a new author is like finding buried treasure. I thought this was a amazing read, even though when I picked it I had no clue what I’d be reading, really. It didn’t have a cliff hanger nor does it seem like it will be a “series” book. Instead, the author very cleverly wove three stories into one read. They are separate stories but by the end they all mesh together to make one well developed novel. That was just one thing that pulled me in and kept me there.

I met three women in the same situation but who handle themselves differently. Abby, Grace and Cat are human women and mates to vampires. Abby is a ward who’s been around vamps most of her life and is all grown up now, Grace is somewhat naïve and a sheltered homebody and Catlin is a bar owner. The brethren are a group of male vampires who watch over the city and are destined to be mated. The way the group of men are described almost reminded me of another series. The book lost a bit of its originality with that but it was the only drawback. There was plenty to keep me reading beyond that similarity.

What awesome play with words, as sexy alpha males try to contend with their equally stubborn human mates. The wise cracking, the teasing among the characters was a good fit, almost as if I could close my eyes and see the story playing out. There was one wee twist that threw me for a second, then I completely agreed. There is a bit of danger as a old nemesis the brethren thought dead shows herself. The hot scenes were all wow, yep, I needed to fan my face. There was some hints of BDSM but not much mostly the alpha male tendencies. Oh, I just fell in love with Tasha and Micah.  The ending was surprising, but HEA. I enjoyed it and it listed as a favorite. Enjoy!

This book is a collection of rants, opinions, and observations on random subjects that I scribbled while running away from and toward my true self.

I hope my words can show others that there is life after years of breaking rocks on society’s conformity chain gang and that real empowerment is being yourself and not what others tell you that you should be. You cannot sit and read the book of your life as it unfolds. You must write the next page yourself. That is the way to growth and to peace and yes, you can be homesick for places you have never been.

Book description by my Inner voice: This is a chunk of at times incoherent ramblings on life and people one meets as they wander aimlessly on the internet and through the so-called real world… a shambolic, circumlocutious clustershtuck of a sometimes crap-infused, possibly drug-fuelled word salad.

“Eminence Front”

“Eminence Front” is a great song by The Who, and they are right: “it is a put on.” Your game face or whatever you want to call it is a necessary thing but one you should not use often as it can be exhausting being fake when you really don’t need to. Your own front is much more powerful, trust me. To crack open your eminence front and pack it away for emergencies, you have to be honest with yourself and others, and that leaves you open to attacks. The attacks and how you deal with them make you what you are. That’s the whole point of my method, and for the most part I bucked the of idea pretending to be something or someone other than what I am.

Certainly, I took gobs of wisdom from here and there and tried applying them to my life—think square peg, round hole. I came to reject the whole idea that I need to be what everyone else said I should be. The one thing I knew for sure was that conformity was not an option. I also learned that while I had no control over some things that happen to me, I do have control over how I react to those things.

What I needed to be was me. Since I am better and always get done what I have to do when backed into a corner, I threw myself into the belly of the beast, facing me head on and changing myself for the better. Fear of the unknown usually kept me from doing things that had to be done, and I usually just sat there sweating with a twisted knot in my stomach waiting to be hit with a shit storm of deadlines and demands for action. This time I ran up to meet the shit storm and I killed it. I was Queen of Confrontation. You have to throw yourself into situations that scare you to conquer your fears. What doesn’t kill ya makes ya stronger and all that rot. There’s a saying and a song that go: “If you’re going through Hell, keep going.” Know that when you’re in the middle of Hell there is a better place once you break on through the wall at the end, and you will get there if you don’t give up. You do not fail until you stop trying. Think about that!

Confronting the shit storm as it approaches allows you to do it on your terms. It’s okay to say out loud that you have no idea if what you are about to do is right but you’re gonna do it anyway. I’ll bet if you look back at things you didn’t do because of fear of failure, you’ll realize that many of those times you watched someone else do exactly what you thought should be done instead of doing the thing that scares you. Now, you probably think to yourself, Why the hell didn’t I just do it? Depending on what that job was, no one can kill you for making a mistake, or better yet, you can ask for help. It’s okay to be vulnerable. Wear your vulnerability like a frickin’ diamond encrusted tiara or a Kentucky Derby chapeau.

Neola is never quite sure who her lover will be the next time she sees him, but she always knows the sex will sizzle — whether he’s man or wolf! In the three years they’ve been together, she’s gone from being afraid of predators to being the beloved prey of one very special hunter with a penchant for abducting her during her jogs in the park. She never knows when or where he’ll pounce! Will he stay with her when his disguise starts to fall apart, or will he leave her and seek a new hunting ground?

This is a super short story that I found fun and hot. Told in the first-person perspective by Neola, her sexy friends-with-benefits style relationship with Kalen while she goes running in the park each night is steaming hot from the first few pages. Simple but compelling this is one of those rare books where I found myself with still a few questions at the end of the book but not minding that the whole story wasn’t clearly laid out and each dangling thread tied away.

While Kalen is a wolf-shifter he appears to be more than that, able to take on many different human faces. What, exactly, Kalen is doesn’t get fully resolved but I found that the intensity of this ultra-short story made up for the fact we never really have that explained.

I adored Neola’s character and the strength she showed when the precarious balance she and Kalen had found in their relationship together was threatened. I felt this quick story had an excellent resolution and, while there isn’t really very much plot to it, I found this fast story satisfying and enjoyable to read. I’d definitely try more by this new-to-me author.

“Property,” she said, finally finishing her sentence. She didn’t recognize anything. Not a God. Damn. Thing. “We aren’t on my property.” Her voice didn’t sound right on her ears.

“So you didn’t kidnap me and give me this fancy new BDSM collar?” He tugged on something about two inches wide and silver around his neck.
Esme fumbled at her neck, finding a collar of her own. It felt like metal, not thick, but seemed sturdy and cold on her skin. Her fingers trembled as she followed around the circumference. There wasn’t a way to unhook it. Her breathing picked up. Her chest heaved.

This was wrong. So very wrong.

The man shrugged. “I mean, if you’re into BDSM, I won’t judge you. But as I said, I’m through with all the weird shit.”

Esme clenched her fists in frustration. Tears welled in her eyes. Her heart felt like it was one beat away from exploding. “Hey, nitwit, this isn’t just about you. I think we’re all in the same boat here. I woke up probably the same time you did and just assumed I was home, because,” a hysterical chuckle left her mouth, “where else would I be on a friggin’ Friday night?”

“Hate to break it to you, but it’s Sunday night. I just played Comerica Park in Detroit.”

Esme frowned and shook her head. “No, I’m positive. The last thing I remember is coming home from work and thinking about binging on Netflix. It’s what I do every Friday night.”

He snorted. “Well, that’s sad.”

“Hey! We all can’t play at Comerica Park.” She exhaled loudly. “What is that anyway and why are you dressed like an over the top rock star?”

She’d heard of Detroit, even visited once when she’d lived in the United States to attend college. Her mom had a distant cousin who’d live near the United States and Canada border, and she’d spent a Christmas with them instead of flying all the way home to Mexico.

The rockstar guy brushed off his pants and straightened his clothes. “It’s called ‘stage presence,’ baby.”

“Oh, my God. Can you guys keep it down? Some of us are trying to sleep,” came a tired voice from a shadowy corner.

Rockstar guy held up his hand and pulled each finger down slowly.

New guy scrambled to his feet. He was a lot bigger than rock star guy and bigger than most men she knew. He had on army fatigues, military boots, and dog tags hanging from his thick neck. He scowled. “Wait. Where the hell am I?”

Rockstar guy smirked and dropped his hands. “And there it is.”

Top 5 signs that you’ve met your soul mate (as seen by yours truly…) by Liv Olteano

Long and Short Reviews welcomes Liv Olteano who is celebrating the recent release of Lover Behind Enemy Lines. Enter the Rafflecopter at the end of the post for a chance to win and ebook copy of Lover, Lover by Liv Olteano + 1 ebook copy of Star-crossed Lover.

Top 5 signs that you’ve met your soul mate (as seen by yours truly…)

1. You’re ridiculously attracted to them, without having a clear idea why – You know, like when you feel this soul-deep need to finish a bag of chips once you’ve opened it? Yeah, like that, but 100 times worse xD You can’t really pinpoint one particular thing that is driving you this crazy, and yet when your gazes meet your knees turn to jelly and you can’t really seem to remember your name or what year it is.

2. You wouldn’t feel like stabbing them with a fork because they took the last slice of pizza – What, you don’t think about that when you’re contemplating a date? That’s my go-to way of deciding if I’m really into someone :)) Sharing is caring, so if I don’t want to share, then I’m pretty sure I won’t really care :))

3. They want to take you somewhere outdoors for the first date, and you’re actually excited about going – Hey, I’m a city girl through and through! If I’m willing to endure nature in order to spend time with you, then it’s the once-in-a-lifetime kind of real thing! Are you an outdoors kind of person? Then replace “outdoors” with the kind of place you don’t like to go, haha.

4. You carry entire conversations without uttering even one word – Because I joke around a lot, but let’s get real here. I’m sure you’ve met your soul mate if they know what you’re thinking without you saying, and you know what that makes them think without them having to say it either! The perfect relationship, where nobody talks :)) Jk, jk. But honestly, that kind of connection tells me that those two souls have a long history together, don’t you think so?

5. You get déja-vu moments when you’re kissing, caressing & such – I mean specific ones, like you’ve done that exact same thing with that exact same person, in that exact way and in that exact context sometime before, though you haven’t. Has it ever happened to you?

True mates, together at last.

Claw—fearless leader of Seattle’s Team 32—has faced many dangers during more than a century and a half as a dreamcatcher. “Why did you break in?”

This was familiar ground. I’d asked that question a lot of times since he was here. He had yet to give me a believable answer.

As expected, he pouted and looked away. His gaze landed on the plate I’d brought. “Can you at least free one of my hands so I can eat like a normal person?”

I sighed and got the fork out of the nightstand drawer where I’d stashed it. “Because that went so well the last time.”

“You’re not feeding me again. I’m not your fucking pet.”

“Of course not. I wouldn’t handcuff a pet.”

“Screw you,” he muttered.

“I wouldn’t do that to a pet, either. And I’d advise against waking everyone up. They won’t like the fact that I’m feeding you the leftovers they were no doubt planning to devour later on. Now, are you hungry or not?”

Finding a soul mate was the easy part. To seduce him proved to be Martin’s hardest challenge for nothing in Pirate Drake’s black intriguing eyes led on to the fate awaiting him. But can the month, between Thanksgiving and Christmas be enough to convince him of the contrary and overcome his dilemnas about gender, feelings connections and sex? Or can Pirate Drake find a way around the burning desire, the erotic heat, the uncontrollable passion wrecking his senses at Martin’s mere sight?

Drugs, booze and sex. These are the three things that controlled Martin’s life for years. He tried to fill the hole caused by not finding his soulmate with these things, but nothing seemed to cure the problem. So one day he got tired of the drugs and booze and decided to just settle for what he could find alone. Little did he know that when he finally gave up would be when his soulmate finally appeared.

Drake thought this Thanksgiving would be like every other holiday at his parents’, but as soon as he got there he knew something was different. That was when he met the green-eyed, blond-haired devil, Martin. And like any devil, Martin is determined to seduce Drake.

I liked Ms. Tolomei’s realistic portrayal of the characters’ emotions. I felt like I was reading about real people with real issues. And cialis no prescription cheap please communicate with your partner, express your sexual frustrations and allow him to do the same. Not only is Drake reluctant to believe in Martin’s notion of “soulmate”, but he also has problems accepting the fact that his mate is actually male, and this male is not willing to settle for monogamy with his wife, let alone his soulmate. So Drake is skeptical that this is his other half. Yet no matter how much he fights it, Drake cannot help but feel this strange magnetic pull whenever he is around Martin. I appreciated that this was not just a fairy tale relationship – the characters faced real issues that real people face on a daily basis.

Not only is the story realistic from a plot standpoint, but also a character standpoint. Each character in this story had both positive and negative qualities. In many romance stories you find the hero and/or heroine is perfect. Perfect hair, perfect personality just perfect, perfect, perfect. To Seduce a Soulmate was richer because, although attractive, the characters do not seem perfect to the point that the reader cannot identify with them.

Martin needs to teach a class on seduction and sex because he definitely knows what he is doing. If every man put as much effort into keeping his partner(s) happy, we would all be walking around with smiles, and I am sure the world would be a happier place.

Anyone looking for an enjoyable story with real people, this is one for you.

Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place…

After enduring a devastating betrayal, Fox finds himself in dire need of a fresh start and a new place to call home. When his loyal friend offers him a spare room in the house he shares with his charismatic brother, Fox cautiously accepts the invitation. Little does he know that this housing arrangement will ignite a flurry of unexpected emotions within him.

Caught off guard by a magnetic pull towards his friend’s older sibling, Fox battles with the fear of embarking on another vulnerable relationship. Despite his reservations, he soon realizes that there’s no escaping the undeniable chemistry that intertwines their lives.

As Fox navigates the intricacies of cohabitation, he discovers a bond beyond what he ever imagined. With shared moments of laughter, secrets exchanged, and tender gestures that hint at something more, can Fox find the courage to let go of his past heartbreak and embrace the tantalizing possibilities that lie with his conveniently attractive roommate?

It’s never too late to heal from the past.

The dialogue was realistic and entertaining. Given the difficult childhoods that both West and Fox experienced, it made total sense that their communication skills weren’t always particularly strong. This is something I’m sharing as a reader who is not generally a huge fan of plots that rely on miscommunications for conflict, but in this case, it worked perfectly for everyone involved given how much they had to hide their sexual orientations, among other things, in order to feel safe as kids. Honestly, I would have been shocked if either of them had emerged from childhood without these sorts of emotional scars. Including them enriched the storyline and made me want to keep reading.

I had trouble keeping track of many of the secondary characters. There wasn’t as much time spent describing their physical appearances, personalities, or interests as I would have preferred to see, so except for the two protagonists I struggled to form mental images of them that could have helped me remember who was who. This did improve once I was more than halfway through it, but it was still something that held me back from enjoying this as much as I would have liked to.

With that being said, I appreciated how slowly and organically the romance was allowed to unfold. The friends to lovers trope is one I already loved, and it was put to great use here. Fox and West both had excellent reasons for not rushing anything, especially given all of the other stuff going on in both of their lives that was rightfully taking up so much of their attention when they first met. In my opinion, romance novels are best to read when the characters in them already have full and satisfying lives before the slightest whiff of a new love interest is introduced. Kudos to the author for putting so much effort into this.

The Convenient Roommate had a fun premise.

Lessons I’ve Learned from the Men in My Life
There have been several men who have taught me several lessons of life, especially in the way they treated me. I would like to share some of them here. The first and foremost lesson that I learnt was not to trust anyone especially by looks and appearances. They can be misleading. Rather, get to know the person and then decide whether that person is trustworthy or not.

The second lesson that I learnt was that if men make advances towards you, they sweet-talk and try to seduce you, they are only expecting or “demanding” sexual favours. They can do nothing else. They are not true to their word. The third lesson that I learnt was that the most demanding (of sexual favours) men are hidden in the family. They do not open immediately. They do not show or express their intentions openly. They come up with sudden surprises or rude shocks.

Never trust a man who has left another woman for you. Never trust a man who leaves you for another woman. These men are like scavengers – they only salvage what they want and then move on for their next prey. Be careful and wary of these. Never trust a man who only looks at women through their privates.

Never get so emotionally attached to someone that it becomes difficult to detach. Emotions are good, but they need to be controlled. Do not let your emotions control you. Decisions taken during emotional moments can be very disturbing and disastrous. These are some of the lessons that I have learnt from the various “villains” in my life. Introduction

My name is Celisha J. I have been through a lot, learned, and am better because of it. I am a firm believer that every lesson is a blessing. God has saved me so many times. I know he did this because he has something bigger planned for me.

My prayer for this book is that it helps women and children who have gone through the same or similar situations to know that they don’t have to allow the traumas of their past to keep them from being successful. I believe that God has a plan for our life, but we did something to alter that plan along the way. He did not intend for us to struggle or have a hard life. He allows us to choose the path we want to go on. The good thing is he is that he is Always there to pick us up when we fall. We were born for greatness.

Hold yourself accountable for your mistakes and forgive yourself and those who hurt you. Forgiveness is for you. I want people to know you can be the best you that you allow. No one says it will be easy, but the main thing to remember is that you are responsible for you. I believe that the only person you can truly believe in life, who won’t let you down, is God and yourself. In order for you to crawl out of the slump of being abused, hurt, let down, controlled, and battered is, your faith in God and the belief that he has better for you. He does not want us to live in our past. He intended for us to learn from it and allow our past to help other people gain strength, but if we tell our stories and we have not grown from what happened to us, then who can we really help?

I have done some things in my past that I am not proud of, and this book tells you my story and how I remember it. No, it is not everything, but the book will tell you the things that stood out the most to me. I have learned a lot and grown from my mistakes, and I have decided not to allow the embarrassment, pain, and struggles from my past to hold me back, so I am releasing it in this book.

This is my Ugly Truth!
