Trapped in a loveless marriage, will Elizabeth’s sacrifice to regain Robert’s love be in vain?

All Elizabeth hoped to do was to rekindle the love in her marriage. Yet despite ignoring her social obligations and immersing herself in her husband’s important work, somehow this only made things worse.

Some of the methods to increase content of high fiber are consumption of viagra online in india beans, fresh vegetables, seeds along with lentils. However, in some men, what appears to be good and effective for others might not be cialis sales canada good and helpful enough to talk to them about it. Her last hope is her unborn child — a source of unrequited love to fill the void inside her. But that too is taken from her. How? Why?

Her doctor avoids her. Her husband berates her. And there are whispers — whispers telling of things that cannot be.

Yet the more Elizabeth ignores the rumors, the more they press on her to seek the truth, so she concocts a plan to find it. To find it and hopefully exonerate both Robert and herself. To discover the reason she’s lost all that’s dear to her. And she will do it, even if she must venture into Whitechapel to do it.

Secrets can destroy a life that someone has spent years building. They can also transform it.

This was one of the most deliciously chilling tales that I’ve read in a long time. The horror was mixed in with Elizabeth’s quiet worries about the fragile state of her marriage and her grief over her terrible loss. I genuinely wasn’t sure what genre I was reading in the beginning because there was so much going on. The scenes were written so that they could fit into several different genres, and that made me insatiably curious to know what the author was going to do with all of the themes she’d introduced in the beginning. While I can’t say much else about this without giving away spoilers, I was quite pleased with how Ms. Oliver tied everything together. To me, the best kind of scary story is one that can be found in the last place I’d ever think to look for it.

With that being said, I would have liked to see a little more foreshadowing in the storyline. I had to reread the ending a couple of times to figure out what the author was hinting at. The clues that were shared earlier on were so subtle that I didn’t pick up on enough of them to understand the final scene the first time I read it even though I had really loved the plot up until that point. If this section had been easier to comprehend, I would have chosen a much higher rating.

The character development was nicely done, especially when it came to Elizabeth. Even though she grew quite a bit, my first impression of her was so strong that I could completely understand why her personality matured the way it did. She remained true to her original self even while she evolved into an entirely new version of herself. I deeply enjoyed watching her make that change.

Charity and Sacrifice is full of the kind of horror that slowly sneaks up on a reader. Give it a chance if you’re a fan of psychological frights.

The forces of survival and destruction swirl in the darkest corners of men’s minds. The nature of the beast cannot be harnessed, and survival is the purest of all instincts. Survival of the species itself goes soul deep. But can the human heart accept and adapt as easily? Can Charity bestow the love and the acceptance that has always been a part of her, to the man whose very survival depended on the hardening of his heart, of his soul? And can Aiden maintain that cruelty now, in the face of the sacrifices she made? Only time and nature will tell…

A story of the Breeds, but also the struggle between the head and the heart.

I love the Breeds and have been asked recently who my favorite is. I can’t say I have a favorite because I’ve loved all the stories so much. This one was pretty good; I have to admit. Leigh writes captivating characters, even in a few pages. This story zinged along well, and the bedroom scenes were…HAWT.

Aiden knows there’s something about Charity that he can’t forget. He wants to believe it’s because he can’t stand her, but it’s more complicated. Charity has done something for Aiden to save his life, but it’s complicated because neither wants to give any. Seeing the push-pull and the crankiness was great. Leigh writes pretty darn good bitchy women and that’s completely a compliment. Her women are strong and steady, even when in unsteady situations.

If you’re looking for a book to singe the screen and features a great pair of characters, then this is the book for you. Recommended.

In a world where a werecat virus has changed society, Roan McKichan, a born infected and ex-cop, works as a private detective trying to solve crimes involving other infecteds.

Now Roan is locked in a coma as the struggle between his human and werecat sides reaches a new extreme. All Dylan can do is sit, wait, and think.

Meanwhile, Roan’s assistant, Holden, wants to shed his old street life and his relationship with Scott, but he can’t seem to do either. Holden doesn’t want a relationship with Scott but finds himself drawn to him all the same, even if he can never fully reveal his past.

With Roan out of commission, Holden looks into the murder of an old friend. At the same time, Fiona takes on a case about underground death matches between infecteds —one with connections to the Church of the Divine Transformation.

Finally Roan wakes only to discover that his shifts have new consequences. His lion’s strength is growing, and he can’t hide from it any longer….

Gripping and suspenseful are two words to describe this latest adventure from Ms. Speed. There’s a lot of personal growth going on in this book so fans of the Infected series are sure to find something to pique their interest. The usual hard-edged and stark world that Roan inhabits rears its ugly head and is dealt with in a way unique to the hero. Roan-buffs will not be disappointed. His odd taste in music and T-shirts continues to flavor the tone of the book.

There are a couple of mysteries to solve, and the answers to one case weren’t welcome by the person who hired Roan. Even when the poor guy does his job, he still catches flack. There was another case where it provided hints as to how much the hero is affected by the virus. He’s still evolving and confounding Dr. Rosenburg. Her potty mouth always cracks me up.

There’s a lot of insight with Roan’s internal dialogues. He’s been mentally beating himself up for most of series but this book seems to indicate a resignation point might have been reached. Time will tell if it’s a healthy choice or not. A reader will find his introspection very interesting.

Holden is on scene quite a bit in this book. As much as I like his character and that he experiences some personal growth, much to his dismay, it’s part of an issue – head-hopping. I’m not a fan of it when it breaks up the flow of storytelling and creates a delivery that comes across as choppy. I adore this series, and I’m guilty of wanting to know more and everything and perhaps Ms. Speed was trying to appease everyone by covering all the bases, but I’m not sure the head-hopping format worked this time around. There seemed to be so much ground to cover that depth and emotional connection was sacrificed for expediency. I didn’t get the feeling of substance between Holden and Scott. Roan is the person who interpreted things and informed me of what I was missing. Then there is Dylan. He’s there too and again, seeing things from his point of view didn’t give me a sense of connection. The only one who was consistent and gripping was Roan.

The hockey guys are still around but they are very much in the background, even more so now that Tucker and Grey are off scene. I miss their antics, but like life, circumstances motivate change. There are a couple of surprise cameos from characters in past books and Dee is still giving Roan a hard time while giving him an assist. Inasmuch the hero rubs people the wrong way, Roan has a lot of friends and this book reminds him of that. His surprise at the realization makes me sad for him. He really is a tortured hero.

I liked those few and far between special moments between Roan and Dylan. There is never any ‘in the bedroom’ action – it’s all tender or passionate kisses, depending on the moment, and hugs – the kind of actions that are a balm to the soul when things are rough.

One thing that remains strong and an asset to this series is Ms. Speed’s use of dialogue. It’s always raw, gritty, to the point and filled with cleverness. When there is emotion and vibrancy between characters, the dialogue is key. The author’s use of descriptive imagery is also vivid and powerful. She makes reference to a certain actor’s jaw so I had to Google it. I was tickled by who she referenced. I like that guy but never knew his name!

Infected: Undertow is a must read. Especially if you remember how the previous book ended. At least this one doesn’t leave a reader in shock. No, this time avid curiosity is like a burning flame. What did Roan’s introspection really mean? What’s going to happen with his PI business? And what did those tests reveal about the virus? Who can Roan trust and is he becoming an official superhero? There are so many questions and so many reasons to be on the lookout for the next installment in the series. The next book is going to be an auto-buy for certain. Infected: Undertow is a strong continuation of an amazing series that remains vibrant, engaging and fascinating. I’m a happy reader.

“We are most courageous at our weakest; when we believe we have faced what we fear the most and have nothing more to lose.”

At the sudden death of her grandfather, Ona’s pain transports her to mystical Luenah—a place of infinite possibilities, free of turf wars and other ills that plague the earthly dimension she lives in. In Luenah, where her grandfather awaits her, Ona learns she is an Eri, one bestowed with unique intuitive and spiritual gifts passed down from generation-to-generation.

On her eighteenth birthday, she returns to Luenah and is handed a box to deposit her ‘exchange’ for love and happiness—her great desires.

Burdened by her quest, Ona crosses paths with danger and heartbreak as the two men that love her dearly are viciously pitted against each other. As evil looms, she learns that dreams carry a hefty price, and no one is who they seem. Now, she must unmask the villain and save the one she loves, even at the risk of losing everything she holds dear.

Set against the backdrop of two warring towns, Oby Aligwekwe’s Young Adult debut—told from the viewpoint of her main character—is inspired by her West African heritage, fables, and spiritual beliefs. Ona’s journey reveals the power of choice, the true source of happiness, and, most importantly, the transformation one must go through to realize and eventually occupy their purpose.

Amidst all that chaos, Okem lifted me with both hands and walked in the direction of the house. Everyone stared at us in amazement. Okem had grown from the scrawny child that came to live
with us a few years back to a strong teenager. I couldn’t believe it was the same person who had irritated me so much the first time I met him that sacrificed his own life to save me.

**************

Before long, Okem became my greatest friend, brother, and teacher. My grandmother sent Okem to the community secondary school in Ntebe, and I moved away from home to attend the private co-ed in Ajidi, the big city. Okem’s school wasn’t highly ranked, but it was relatively good. It had produced some high caliber individuals that went on to become successful leaders in the community. In contrast, my school was one of the highest-ranked schools in Ajidi. It was reserved for the brightest and the most privileged pupils—the children of the rich, and top government officials.

Despite the differences in our upbringing, Okem and I treated each other as equals. I wished I could see him every day I was in school. Unfortunately, that luxury was left for the holidays and once a term when he came along with my grandmother on visiting days. On those special occasions, Okem dressed in his Sunday best and wore his hair in a different hairstyle each time to impress me—whatever was in style that season. The haircuts always had a name —“pompadour” or “high top fade,” or “mohawk.” It was always something funny. I could sense his excitement whenever he showed them off. Those occasions were the most memorable of my stay in boarding school.

Hanukkah

In our house, we celebrate Hanukkah. Through the years, many things about our celebration have changed. When the kids were young, we of course made a big deal about the holiday. We’d play music, serve latkes (potato pancakes), play dreidel and on a few of the eight nights, give presents. As the kids have gotten older, our traditions have changed.

The entire family would get together one night to exchange gifts with the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. We all brought our menorahs—candelabras with room for nine candles—and we took big group photos of everyone lighting the candles.

We got together with friends one night and our photos over the years show how much the kids have grown (and how willing or unwilling they are now to smile).

One of the eight nights is dedicated to giving back. Instead of presents for ourselves, we donate to a charity. Some years we’ve made blankets and quilts for our local animal shelter. Other years we’ve sent money to a charity we all agree on—a small miracle in and of itself, since we rarely all can agree on anything. Once when the kids were little, we went to the toy store, bought toys and games for kids who didn’t have any, and brought them to a local preschool.

My specialty for Hanukkah is making fried Oreos. The holiday celebrates the miracle of the oil lasting for eight nights, so our traditional foods are those made with lots of oil, like donuts. Several years ago, my husband and I went to a county fair in the summer and had fried Oreos. We loved them, and since they are deep fried, they fit the holiday perfectly. I found a recipe online to make them and ever since then, family and friends have demanded them every year.

During COVID, however, all of that will change. The four of us will celebrate together. Presents will still be exchanged and charity given. But the family and friend celebrations won’t occur. Instead, we’ll include others via FaceTime, or maybe do a quick outdoor visit, delivering latkes and Oreos, depending on the weather. There’s less light in the world right now, but the warmth remains. And the sacrifices we make now will ensure a brighter tomorrow. Or at least I hope so.

Benjamin Cohen, widowed father of six-year-old Jessie, is doing his best to hold it together through order and routine. The last thing he needs is his matchmaker mother to set him up with her next door neighbor, no matter how attractive she is.

Rachel Schaecter’s dream of becoming a foster mother is right within her grasp, until her meddlesome neighbor tries to set her up with her handsome son. What's worse? He’s the father of her favorite kindergarten student! She can’t afford to let anything come between her and her dream, no matter how gorgeous he may be.

Can these two determined people trust in the miracle of Hanukkah to let love and light into their lives?

Jennifer started telling herself stories as a little girl when she couldn’t fall asleep at night. Pretty soon, her head was filled with these stories and the characters that populated them. Even as an adult, she thinks about the characters and stories at night before she falls asleep or walking the dog. Eventually, she started writing them down. Her favorite stories to write are those with smart, sassy, independent heroines; handsome, strong and slightly vulnerable heroes; and her stories always end with happily ever after.

In the real world, she’s the mother of two amazing daughters and wife of one of the smartest men she knows. She believes humor is the only way to get through the day and does not believe in sharing her chocolate.

Bidding on a masked man at an auction is all for a good cause, but what happens when he turns out to be a vampire who has the power to unleash the wild woman lying dormant inside you?

As a Darklander vampire, Mitch has spent a century living in a bleak world, but all that changes when he sees Tina. The beast living within Mitch wants to stake his claim. Mitch knows taking Tina’s virginity will change her forever, but try explaining that to a woman whose passion cannot be denied. Tina holds the key to his freedom, but Mitch will be damned forever before he turns her over as a slave for his master.

A sexy charity auction with delectable men flaunting themselves before you, vying for the highest bid – as a woman with the money in hand to make your fantasy a reality, how could you possibly go wrong? Thus is the question posed for our heroine, Tina, as she bids on a man who turns out to be a whole lot more than she bargained for in Be My Vampire Tonight; the first in the Darklander Lovers series.

The novella starts out promising, with our hero, Mitch, preparing to be presented to the adoring female crowd for charity. From the moment he smells the delectable and unique fragrance of the heroine, Tina, he knows he must have her. Although Tina is attracted to Mitch, she senses there is something different about the masked man she’s just purchased a night with and, as sparks fly, she soon discovers she wants more than one night in his arms. Tensions mount as unavoidable obstacles are thrust into their path but, as Mitch and Tina cave to their desires, they soon learn anything is possible if you long for it badly enough and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

While I did enjoy certain aspects of Be My Vampire Tonight, there was a substantial amount of telling versus showing and repetitive word choice/dialogue. Compounding this is the fact that certain secrets are revealed and they seem to come out of nowhere, literally tossed onto the page without warning or any hints along the way. Although a paranormal romance, I felt that reading Be My Vampire Tonight required more of a suspension of belief than most stories in this genre. I truly think that more time spent on the influences and revelations that change things drastically for Mitch and Tina would have given more depth to the story, as well as to their motivations and feelings.

Those issues aside, Be My Vampire Tonight does offer some steamy scenes and a few unexpected twists and turns to keep you on your toes. This first novella in the series is written to foreshadow what you can expect in future, and I can say that if you like magic and shifters, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out. You get a little of everything here, including a sexy vampire who isn’t all he seems, a heroine who has even more shocking surprises in store, and secondary characters that will have you curious about what happens next.
